"Smile When the Lights Are On"
11"x14"
Graphite pencil, 2019

This piece is reminiscent to using huge lightbulbs for flash photography. Watching those and similar lightbulbs today, the light from them slowly fades over several seconds after being switched off. Almost similar to how we can see a star far off in space because of the speed that light travels, but that star has already died and gone out.
Is this lightbulb slowly warming up to turn on? Or is it fading in it's last few seconds after being switched off? How you answer the question will determine you're viewpoint of this drawing.
